Project Description

In my User Interaction Design Class, our team created the HDPT Bus App because as students of James Madison University our current bus app was not up to date. The current JMU/HDPT app at the time struggled to remain consistent with updates and accuracy in bus route times as well as basic information. With this in mind our idea was to create an app that would fulfill the needs of the core users. We began our research by reaching out to college aged women and men who use the JMU/HDPT transportation system for their day to day transportation. Other users that we kept in mind were users who used the JMU/HDPT that are not JMU students. Considering that the user base for the JMU/HDPT app would range based on age we wanted to create an app that would be easy to navigate and user friendly. We found through usability testing that the goal of simplicity was reached and that when a user was asked to complete a task they did so almost immediately. As we conducted multiple tests through the design process the app developed in many different forms, each form trying to accomplish the end goals of users being able to navigate their routes more swiftly and efficiently. In the end we feel that the final product showed the dedication and hard work of our group who cares about helping current students and future students of the University.
